RECORDING STUDIO
A studio designed by a pianist for pianists

In many ways, the Inside Pianos recording studio is the beating heart of the entire operation. It's where the owner, Ben Blozan, takes his daily morning practice. And for over 15 years, it has been the crucible in which his struggle for the ideal piano sound has been waged. Refinements to the piano, the space, and the art of recording (while never declared "finished") are at the point we feel comfortable calling exceptional; and we want the space to be enjoyed!
The piano: A restored 1962 Baldwin SD-6. This 9-foot concert grand hails from the time when the Baldwin Piano Company could boast of having numerous legendary artists in their roster--Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Dave Brubeck, to name but a few. An instrument of noble character, voiced with an emphasis on warmth and color.
The space: The sound room is a conversion from a sizable 1940s garage. With the attic removed, the 24X20 room opened up to resemble a non-traditional chamber music space. The acoustics have been tuned to retain a liveness that evokes a performance hall.
